How to develop a strong athletic base

Body weight training is in my opinion essential for creating a strong athletic base... gymnasts being a fine example of that
They have fantastic strength, mobility, proprioception (control of their body) and core strength etc.

Mastering press ups, pull ups, rows, squats, lunges, dips, hollow bodies and more are fantastic for athletic development.
If I had to choose one piece of kit to train my upper body with for the rest of my life it would have to be rings first and a TRX second.

Thankfully I don’t have to make that choice as I love my barbells and DB’s as well but if I HAD to choose.
I think a great aim for anyone who is interesting in improving their strength, fitness and overall ability to move well should consider improving their body weight strength and skill...
Focus on improving the quality of your movements and the volume you can perform. Goals could include mastering a single leg squat or handstand hold or L sit etc. Or increasing the number of pull ups and press ups you can do.
