Since leaving school, I had never participated in any regular exercise and my life seemed to be geared around having and helping to raise 5 sons. There had been times when Tony would encourage me to go running with him but it was always short-lived and I would quit at the drop of a hat. My weight gradually increased over the years and I realised I was the archetypal middle-aged, unfit, overweight and unmotivated woman. I had tried diets but like all diets, they eventually fail.
Tony knew I wanted to get fit and lose weight but how to incorporate it into a busy day would be the challenge. After he had been to FITISM and how much he enthused about their philosophy I considered it but really didn’t want to go down the personal trainer route. I thought it really wasn’t for me.
Tony told me about how they offered free taster sessions. So I went along with trepidation wondering what to expect. I envisaged being unfit and so far behind everyone else. In reality, everyone made me feel welcome and the way in which FITISM operates no one is left behind or made to feel in any way inferior. I thoroughly enjoyed my first sessions even though I could hardly move for the stiffness over the following days!
I was a dress size 14 going on 16. I am now a comfortable size 10 (can even squeeze into an 8 on occasion). The thought of running a couple of miles filled me with dread. Now I can comfortably run 6 miles whenever I want, even though I don’t run regularly. I have also managed a 16K and a 10K for charity.
My energy levels are much better and my outlook is certainly much more positive.
FITISM has allowed me to incorporate fitness and weight loss into my weekly routine and now, 3 years later it plays a big part in my life. I know it is designed to maintain physical health but the psychological aspect should not be understated. I really look forward to my sessions – the feeling of pushing myself, the ‘high’ I have afterwards as well as the fun and camaraderie I have with my fellow FITISM fam members. It definitely keeps me going.
As a family, we would wholeheartedly recommend FITISM to anyone who needs to get into fitness, those who are already fit and would like to maintain it and for athletes wishing to go to the next level.
Their philosophy is only part of attraction. They successfully bring together all of the aspects of fitness – conditioning, strength and nutrition and marry them with a togetherness their clients feel by being part of the FITISM family.
